So, I just saw the last of my 62 straight years of hard winters come to a merciful end.
No, I’m not dying. But, I have finally pulled the plug on on month after month of freezing cold and limited sunshine. That is over. We have been able to retire and are leaving the home we love for a smaller version down south. There are some mixed emotions about leaving. I love the people here and hate the idea of leaving them. However, I am also thrilled that I won’t have to worry whether or not the HVAC furnace will make it through the next winter. Plus, heating the house has become so expensive that we are actually going to save money in the new house on utilities. The square footage is much smaller so there will be less to heat and cool. Of course, the area we are headed to doesn’t worry so much about the heating. The winters are incredibly mild. But, the summers are scorchers and there will be plenty of kilowatt hours consumed cooling the house. But, it will be far less than the utility bills we payed for 6 months of winter. This savings has allowed me a dream purchase. We put a sunroom on the side of the house. I can hardly believe that I will be able to sit, sip coffee and enjoy the sun and nature. We even put a ductless HVAC unit out there so I can enjoy the sunroom year round! Without that, the summer heat would simply make it impossible to enjoy. Sunshine, here I come.
