That night we were a little nervous about turning the heater back on, but finally broke down and did it.
When I was a teenager I worked at a summer camp for kids. I was a counselor and my friends and I all stayed in the same cabin. Even though it was summer the nights would get cold and we would sometimes have to run the heater at night. One night our heater kicked on and never kicked off. We told our camp manager and he said he would send an HVAC tech to work on it. Since the camp was so far out, they weren’t able to come quickly. They said it would be a couple of days. We tried to crack the window and let in the cool air to keep the cabin comfortable, but it wasn’t any use. When the HVAC tech came out, they were able to work on the heater fairly quickly. They knew just what to do to fix it. As it turns out, there was just a button stuck on the inside that was preventing the heater from shutting off. They had all the parts needed to fix it and made sure it was easy to shut it off before they left. That night we were a little nervous about turning the heater back on, but finally broke down and did it. We slept comfortably and the next day we were so excited to see the heat shut off as it should. We were relieved that our heater was working as it should and that we could be warm at night and cool during the day. We were so happy and comfortable that we ended up having all our campers make a sign and write a short thank you to the HVAC tech who made the repairs. I’ll never forget how hot and panicked I was when that heater wouldn’t shut off and I thought we were going to be hot all day.
