When my cousin asked if I would help out on the farm for a day, I thought it would be a walk in the park. I honestly didn’t think about the fact that we would be working in the heat of the day and wouldn’t have access to any air conditioning. Well, the farm work was very challenging. We worked on repairing a fence, fed all the animals, collected chicken eggs, and then we went to harvest corn. It was so much more work than I was expecting. When I asked my cousin how he was able to work all the time without any climate control, he just laughed and said it was something you get used to. He explained that by the time we went to eat supper, we would be able to cool down with the air conditioning in the house. Until that time, we basically stayed outside for the duration of the day from the early morning until the evening hours. We had packed lunches with sandwiches, carrots, and apples, and water to drink. I guess I wouldn’t say it was so terrible working on the farm, but it’s something that you need to get your body used to. My cousin and family members certainly are in great shape from working on the farm regularly. It’s not something I would personally enjoy doing on a regular basis, but I definitely was thankful for the experience. I couldn’t tell you how happy I was to get into a house with air conditioning at the end of the day though! I appreciated the good air quality and the relaxing A/C coming from the HVAC vents. Also, the steak dinner was wonderful!
