I’m well aware of the suggested setting for a single’s air conditioner in the warm season. They say that 75 degrees will keep your house relatively cool while saving a nice bit on energy costs. I simply cannot accept such a high temperature! My control unit has never been set above 76 degrees in the warm season. On the days when I sleep, it’s set to 69 degrees. I think people who are energy efficient penny pinchers would ask why on Earth would I lower the temperature on our control unit at night when it gets cooler outside. To them, I would simply reply that doctors propose that your living room be between 60 and 69 degrees at night in order to get the best quality sleep! So, I stick to the upper threshold, as I must admit that I’m far more comfortable and able to sleep much better than if I had left the control unit at 70 degrees, much less 75! I pay the energy bill, so nobody needs to tell me how much I should be willing to spend for our own personal comfort. The only complication is, the winter seasons around here are relatively mild! My HVAC unit would be finally working much harder to maintain 75 degrees while in the winter season than it would be to maintain 70!
