I definitely never grew up expecting that I would be a house cleaner when I became an adult.
To be fair, I did not enjoy doing chores or keeping a tidy home when I was a child.
I also had a negative view of the occupation after seeing so many unfortunate portrayals of housekeepers on TV. However, when I got into college I eventually realized that I was going to need a job to support myself. This is how I wound up working part-time as a housekeeper in my early twenties. I was surprised to find that I could make a livable wage doing this rudimentary work. To this day, I clean up after other humans. I can tell you… One of my least favorite things is central heating, cooling, and air quality control systems. If you have ever lived in a house with a centralized indoor air temperature control system you may or may not realize how negatively impacts your air quality and the cleanliness of your entire house. Because you are using a centralized forced air HVAC system, it often works to spread nasty dirt throughout your entire house. You might have air filters installed throughout the central HVAC system, but they do not effectively remove airborne contaminants from the ductwork and circulating air unless you remember to regularly change the filtration devices. Most people do not worry about their air filters enough. Therefore, they create a lot of extra work for me when they spread dust, dander, and debris through the HVAC system. When I get a client with ductless heating and cooling systems I nearly jump for joy knowing that I will have a less strenuous cleanup job.
